The Way It Is

The Way It Is
William Stafford

There's a thread you follow. It goes among
things that change. But it doesn't change.
People wonder about what you are pursuing.
You have to explain about the thread.
But it is hard for others to see.
While you hold it you can't get lost.
Tragedies happen; people get hurt
or die; and you suffer and get old.
Nothing you do can stop time's unfolding.
You don't ever let go of the thread.

The way it is for me is that I have no time to draw lately :(

On the other hand, this dry spell motivates me to remember and acknowledge that I have been doing art for decades, and that Zentangle is but the most recent expression of that creative energy in me. There is a thread I have followed for years -- art in the form of drawing and collage. I made the one pictured here around 20 years ago. Ultimately (or maybe lots sooner than that), I want to work with Zentangle and collage together.
